What I Learned Living Between Countries (Mentally & Emotionally)

Between the U.S. and Brazil, I became a different version of myself

Lifestyle + Personal Growth

Living between countries changes you.

In obvious ways.

And in ways you don’t notice until later.

I learned this moving between the United States and Brazil.

New routines.

New language rhythms.

Different expectations.

Different pace.

Different versions of home.

At first it feels exciting.

Then uncomfortable.

Then beautiful.

Then confusing again.

Then somehow… transformative.

You feel free and homesick at the same time

A strange truth:

You can deeply love where you are—

and still miss another place.

You can feel grateful and lost.

Excited and exhausted.

Grounded and unsettled.

At once.

That emotional duality surprised me.

And taught me emotional flexibility.

You stop defining yourself through one place

Your identity becomes softer.

More open.

You realize:

You don’t need one city to define you.

You can belong in more than one chapter.

And sometimes home becomes:

a routine

a coffee ritual

your journal

your language

a familiar candle scent

a beach you return to

a playlist

a feeling

You become more adaptable

Unexpected situations feel less scary.

Travel teaches resilience.

Different cultures teach perspective.

You become more creative.

More resourceful.

More independent.

Your body still needs grounding

Even when your life feels flexible.

That’s why rituals matter.

Small rituals create stability.

Even when life feels fluid.
